I feel like a hypochondriac now because I actually called them last week for a different reason. For a good deal of my pregnancy I would get dizzy spells and see spots in my perifiel (sp?) vision. I know this is a sign of preeclampsia but I have always had pretty low blood pressure when I go in for check ups (avg anywhere from 104/60 to 114/60). Well for the past 2 days I have had dizzy spells so bad I come close to blacking out and the spots and today I am so physically exhausted it is hard to stand. Should I be worried? Last week I called my doctor and told the nurse I was having random contactions over the weekend and then a ton of pressure on Monday and she said it was “very concerning” and I needed to come in right away. It obviously scared me. When I got there they checked my cervix (completely closed) and gave me the fetal fibronectin test that came back neg and said I was fine. Am I just too paranoid? I am afraid that when the nurse calls back she will scare me again.

when i was getting dizzy spells and seeing spots it was due to low blood pressure.
Not at all, thats what we pay them for. It sounds more like your blood pressure may be TOO low. Thats the problem I had with teh same symptoms-all fairly similar to those of HIGH blood pressure. I also had loads of dizzy spells due to fluid in my ears.
YOU HAVE THE RIGHT FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY TO GET ALL THE ANSWERS AND CARE YOU NEED.AND IF YOU FEEL THESE DOCS AND NURSES ARE NOT GIVING YOU THEIR ALL I WOULD FIND A NEW DOCTOR.GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS
I would get sooo dizzy and see black spots. And everything always checked out when I went to the dr. But, I wouldn’t ignore it. Keep track and if it gets worse, go to the er. good luck.
Hmmmm that sounds scary, but if the doctor says its all good, definitely don’t let his nurse scare you! Have you had a glucose test done? When I was pregnant I was having crazy dizzy spells also, and I found out that I had gestational diabetes and was put on a diet where I had to eat 30 carbs every 3 hours, and that really helped….I would also see spots in my vision and weird flashy lights around my peripheral vision if I waited too long to eat. How far along are you?
darlin the nurses are not going to try and scare you on purpose please don’t stress about it because you will strees out baby just relax until they call you if your cervix is closed don’t worry
Dear friend,No you are not a hypochondriac! It sounds to me like maybe your bp is either high,or too low.You need to go back and tell them about your dizzy spells,because they are very concerning! Pre-eclampsia is nothing to play around with.If that is what is causing your dizzy spells,it can be very dangerous to you and the baby!Yes you should be worried.If your doc tells you not to worry,maybe you should get a second opinion just to be sure! But definitely get checked right away for your safety and the babies too!
feeling dizzy and seeing spots can be a sign of preeclampsia. Are your ankles swollen as well? Until you talk to your doctor or someone from his office, lay down. Put yourself on bedrest and eat healthy foods. And don’t worry about calling the doctor with concerns. Most pregnant moms have tons of question (especially if it’s their first), and if you have a good doctor he/she would rather you call with a concern than ignore it!!! Good luck and congrats!!
ps- I had preeclampsia with my 1st and 3rd…they were both born healthy and happy!!!

I have two kids, and low blood pressure. At 38 it is usually 90/60 and during each pregnancy I had the same symptoms you describe all due to low blood pressure and the large amount of fluid present in your body during pregnancy. It is to be expected with low blood pressure. You need to take caution when standing up and getting up in the morning or from lying down. Take your time getting up and just be careful with activities that have you change positions quickly too. And Good Luck!
One thing I like about the emergency room is that they figure out what’s wrong with you right then and there. I personally think a lot of doctors choose not to do their work effeciently so if you feel that you need to make a change, go ahead and do so. You deserve to get good medical care.
Please! You should never worry about calling them too often. We’re not doctors. So when we feel a pain or a pinch or something. We cannot diagnose it ourselves. So that’s what they’re there for. That’s why they get paid so much to do. Be there when we need them. I haven’t had any of those symptoms. But I would recommend you call the doctor every time something doesn’t feel right.
I don’t think you should be worried about bothering them. Because nobody wants you to black out. They can probably do something or give you something to help. Good luck and congratulations!
