My baby is 6 weeks with a fever but they can’t find anything wrong?

My son is 6 weeks old. Last night he was we runnig a fever of 101.5. So me and my husband called his doctor’s answering service and they said to bring him to the local childern’s hospital. We did that and they did a bunch of test. Everything from blood work to chest x rays. Even a pee sample. Couldn’t find a thing wrong.This morning brought him to his doctor he couldn’t find anything wrong either. But wants to keep a close eye because his fever keeps coming up. What could be causeing it that none of the test results are showing?????
Everything else with him is fine he just keeps getting a fever and loosing it. If he goest 10 mins after feeding time still crying. Diapers are normal. Everything else is fine.

Do you have weather change? Or common cold? Did he get shots? I just hope everyhing is ok. Good Luck and I’ll say a prayer for your son.
that happened when my son was 6 weeks too, but they kept him in the hospital for 2 days just to monitor him. they never did find anything so i guess its just something that happens sometimes, b/c the doctors didn’t seem too concerned other than wanting to monitor him just in case it did turn out to be something
If your child only has a fever and nothing else associated with it, then everything should be fine unless it does not go away and keeps coming back.
A fever is a sign of the body fighting something off. They say a fever is actually a good sign.
If your baby is more tired, not eating right, cranky then there is something seriously wrong.
Maybe just a low grade infection that will work itself out. Sounds like you did all the right stuff and that is great that you have the doctor keeping an eye on it. Don’t read too much online – you’ll find 86 different “could be’s” that will freak you out! Better to let the doctor focus on finding an answer while you focus on taking care of your baby! (I say that from experience – I always research every freaky disease only to find out that my child has basically a cold or whatever. I know there are scary illnesses out there, but better to focus on the positive.)

OMG my 4 year old daughter was up to the same thing last week so I took her the hospital cuz her temp was 101,They did tests and strep tests and so on and they said nothing was wrong except a cold.I was like what?I didn’t even think you could get a cold without any signs and then it went away about 2 days later and she’s fine now.
Well having a fever is always a sign that your body is fighting infection, they need to do a blood test again,they have to be missing something,things might not show up with just a urine sample…take him back, he’s too young to have a fever that high for more than 24 hours, until they do something keep him cool, try and force feed fluids, and give him baby Tylenol and try to bring him temperature down..keep him comfortable, and calm…let him sleep in the waiting room, when you sleep your body repairs your immune system..but don’t leave until they thoroughly check him out!!! If your mothering instincts are telling you something is wrong, don’t leave until they are calmed!!!

i have two kids my older child has renal Fleur. she had fever and the Dr say Thai they cant find anything in her blood and urin wrong so it just the body fighting off germ it no biggie.
Ther are many things that can cause fevers in little ones, most commonly, viruses, and most of these do not have a test for them, he could also have roseola, RSV, any number of things, all of which are treatable, millions of children have had them and millions more will get them (and get rid of them in a few days). Hopefully you trust your doctor, if not, you may need to find one that you do trust when your son gets better. Odds are they have done what tests they can, and many of them may take a few days to get results back anyway, and that time, you may find the problem is gone, just stay in touch with your doctor and treat him as your doctor advises. I’m sure the doctor has told you this but the most important thing to llok out for in lil ones is dehydration, make sure he’s eating alright, with no diarhea or vomiting (vomit and spit-up are very different, you’ll be able to tell), if he is you may want to bring him to the dr or childrens hospital. Most of all TRUST YOURSELF, if you feel like somethings really wrongand he needs to be seen, take him, no matter what anyone else says, you know your child, and you know his needs!!!
you should do additonal research along with getting second, third, fourth if need be opinion. When we check out of the hospital with the babies, they teach us the most detemental point about newborns having temps is that it isn’t normal and could be signs of infections. its the only way they can tell us something is wrong. just my opionion. Probably a viral infection, same thing happen to my little girl about 4 weeks ago, it just has to run its course.
There are some viruses that cause a fever with no other symptoms. My son would run fevers as high as 104 but the doctor said as long as there was no rash accompaning the fever and it would come down with tylenol, motrin, sponge baths, etc. not to worry. My son still will run an occasional fever of 101+ with no other symptoms, and I just keep watch and use tylenol.
Well remember this… when a baby’s temperature is 101 or lower it usually means teeth… if it is 101 or higher it is an infection of some sort… if your son’s temperature doesn’t go any higher my guess is he is teething… my youngest broker her first one at 3 months so I know all about that in the begginning.. I would keep a close eye on it. Also how are you taking his temp ? Remember that under the arm you add a degree.. sometimes different thermometors will calculate differently to such as the pacifier one and the rectal one. Hope he feels better soon
